Coenzyme Q10 : New Information for Healthy
Supplementation
If you have read my last article on the healthy supplementation of CoQ10 you are already aware
that it is an extremely effective antioxidant. It was also noted that CoQ10 is a fat soluble supplement and
should be taken with a meal containing some fat.
Most CoQ10 supplements contain the oxidized version of this supplement,
Ubiquinone. Research is currently showing that as the human body ages it cannot convert as much Ubiquinone
to Ubiquinol, which is the form of CoQ10 that is readily available to the body. As you pass the age of 40 this
inability to convert becomes more and more pronounced. Greater amounts of Ubiquinone must be taken to get the
best results.
There currently is a company in Japan that produces Ubiquinol, Keneka, and it is
available to supplement manufacturers for their CoQ10 products. As far as I know this is the only true Ubiquinol
product out there so your supplement brand should say Keneka
QH on the
label.
For the best benefits from CoQ10 supplementation you should be sure that you are getting a
quality Ubiquinol product and remember that it should be taken with a meal containing some fat. The newest
products on the market are providing CoQ10 in their fish oil supplement, this solves the dietary fat issue and
greatly improves the bio availability of Ubiquinol.
